About Me
A native son of Illinois and the youngest of five, I grew up in the Chicago suburbs.  My path to medicine was long and winding--I served as an AmeriCorps volunteer for two years doing homeless outreach on the East Coast.  Those years were formative and changed my career path from social work to medicine.  Random facts about me: I used to play for the Baltimore Ravens.  I love PubQuiz and mystery novels.  I play 3 kinds of clarinet.  I have a love-hate relationship with long-distance running (marathons and half-marathons).  In the future, I hope to practice in an academic medical center, doing a combination of inpatient and outpatient--and hope to also continue public health research.
Why I Chose Peoria
In medical school, I served as president of UIC's four-campus student council; during that time, I came to discover the hidden gem that is the Peoria campus.  The faculty members are outstanding--down-to-earth, well-trained, and caring.  As an independent academic medical center, OSF St. Francis is a hybrid of academic and community hospital--providing the benefits of each.  We are the largest Midwest affiliate of St. Jude's, have a freestanding children's hospital within our campus, and provide in-depth training on both the medicine and pediatrics sides.  We are part of the University of Illinois system--the flagship university of the state of Illinois and the largest medical school in the country--with all the resources that come with it.

About Me
I came to Peoria from Des Moines, IA and plan to return there after training. Pediatric oncology and survivorship was the field that drove me to explore MedPeds training, but I also have a growing interest in general outpatient care. Outside of medicine, I enjoy mountain biking and disc golf. I recently began teaching myself classical guitar, and I am about 1/2-way through an computer-based Spanish immersion program.
Why I Chose Peoria
UICOMP has fashioned many of the most capable teaching physicians that I have worked with. During my interview, I was surprised at the shear number of MedPeds graduates who have remained in this area to not only practice, but to give back.  While rotating as a medical student, I met almost a dozen hospitalist faculty who taught on service in both the adult and children's hospitals (compared to 2-3 at many other programs).  I came to Peoria to learn in an environment where it is the norm to see both adults and children, both inpatient and outpatient.   I am being incomplete if I do not mention OSF Healthcare, the hospital system that provides the infrastructure and spirit of our education. St Francis/Children's Hospital of Illinois is a wonderful all-encompassing tertiary referral facility that we are given to learn in, and educational resources abound. The pace of medicine at this level can sometimes make me forget that is more than illness and medicine. Lucky for us, the sisters of the Order of Saint Francis (who own the system) make it their daily effort to propose that life, even in the midst of disease and suffering, is good and beautiful.

About Me
They call me "Malbry."  I enjoy the finer things in life: kate spade, gin martinis, and Taylor Swift.  I have won as many Academy Awards as Jennifer Aniston and as many Grammys as Kesha.  As a former competitive cheerleader, I am spunky and have a wry sense of humor.  As a native to Central Illinois, I have a deep interest in rural primary care.
Why I Chose Peoria
I get to be close to my family, work with great teachers and mentors, and have made some of the best friends I've ever had; why wouldn't I pick here?!

About Me
I enjoy science fiction, water sports, land sports, and helping my wife wrangle our three active boys.
Why I Chose Peoria
The program here was a good fit for me and my family. There is plenty of support from all sides, and there is plenty to do when that free time pops up once in a while.

About Me
I am a mother to Jack (22 mos) and step-mother to Brooklyn (7 years). I enjoy eating out, exercising, reading/studying, boating, playing with my kids, and outdoor events. I hope to practice outpatient primary care Med-Peds in my hometown.
Why I Chose Peoria
Location was everything to me as I am hoping to keep my son close to our families as he grows up. I also went to medical school here and enjoyed it, so I felt the same could be true of Residency. I have no regrets!

About Me
I'm a huge fan of watching and playing all kinds of sports. My favorite is by far baseball, where I'm a huge fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, where I've been very fortunate to watch both the 2007 and 2011 World Series clinching games in person! Aside from sports, I love spending time with my wife, Emily, and we both love to travel whenever we get the chance.  By virtue of doing my medical school in Peoria, Emily and I have both enjoyed getting to be a part of the community as well, where we're active at Harvest Bible Chapel in Morton. As my years of training go forward, I look forward to learning more about hospital medicine on both the adult and pediatric sides, as well as utilizing my training in the medical mission field.
Why I Chose Peoria
Doing my medical school training in Peoria allowed me to see first hand the excellent educational opportunities that were available in Peoria. By being one of the major hospitals between St. Louis and Chicago, OSF has a large referral base and brings in transfer from all across central Illinois. This provides a diverse base of pathology, that allows a resident to see both the bread and butter cases as well as uncommon disorders. Along with this, the attendings are committed to education, and go above and beyond the call to make sure the residents are constantly learning and providing excellent patient care. Along with this, the city of Peoria provides a wide range of activities to do whenever we're off work. Whether it be going to a baseball game, meeting up for trivia, or just having dinner together, our group of residents are very close. This is nice in that it lets you know you're not going through residency alone, and many others are there to support you.

About Me
I love traveling, visiting new places, and trying out new things. In terms of hobbies, I play the piano, paint, and dance. I am still exploring my options post residency and contemplating doing a fellowship.
Why I Chose Peoria
I was attracted to the location. The people were all friendly, area felt safe, and best part (especially when you're in residency and driving odd hours) is no traffic! At the same time, Saint Louis and Chicago are not too far away and make perfect weekend get-a-ways. I think the best part about training here is that there is such a strong MedPeds culture with quite a lot of the faculty being MedPeds trained.
