Combined Med Peds trainingFrom Day 1.
MedPeds Residents have a full day of clinic each week on all elective months--as well as a full day every other week while on inpatient service. Residents' clinic days are composed of a half-day at a private clinic and a half-day at an underserved clinic. All residents begin in a community OSFMG MedPeds practice--starting one half day per week. PGY-1 residents complete an additional one-half day in the Pediatric Ambulatory Clinic ("PAC") at our federally qualified health center, Heartland-Armstrong. Beginning PGY-2, residents transition to a combined MedPeds clinic at the same FQHC, complete with a robust pediatric panel from their first year training.
In addition to hands-on training, residents participate in a structured "pre-clinic" curriculum that features both pediatric and adult outpatient topics, completed before each half-day. All facilities (OSF St. Francis, Children's Hospital, OSFMG MedPeds clinics, Heartland-Armstrong) make use of an integrated electronic medical record (EPIC), allowing residents to care for their patients in the digital age. |
